Suitor, who has been with the company for 10 years, has been extremely pleased with the Volvo Penta engines the company has chosen for their mobile rock crushers and aggregate screeners, and anticipates installing 40 to 50 Volvo Penta engines this year.
“Mostly, we install the six-cylinder, 360-horsepower Volvo Penta D11 Tier 4 Final engine into the J45 and J50 Jaw Crusher, as well as the I44 Impact Crusher and the C38 Cone Crusher,” says Suitor. “Our machines are used in landscaping, mining, aggregates, construction and demolition, and waste management and recycling.”
From their customers, Suitor is hearing positive comments, which he echoes. For example, customers say the Volvo Penta Tier 4 Final solution is compact and simple, it’s easy to install the Volvo Penta engine into an existing location, the electrical connections to the control system are straightforward, and that the Tier 4 after-treatment module is easy to connect up and mount on the chassis. “The lead times are really good,” says Suitor. “Engineering support from Volvo Penta throughout the duration of the project has been second to none. We have regular meetings both on site and via telephone to ensure that the project keeps moving forward.”
Suitor also shared a story about a positive experience with Volvo Penta. The company had used the four-cylinder, 218-horsepower Volvo Penta D5 Tier 4 Final engine, but found the radiator design was far too large for their existing power units. McCloskey asked Volvo to design a much smaller radiator to fit the available space and properly match up to the D5 engine ratings. Volvo produced the 3D concept CAD model in a couple of days, and it was right the first time. The smaller radiator was quickly made available, and it reduced the engine price as well.
