Volvo Penta plays it cool2/17/14
Who in their right mind would offer to set up a reliable power supply installation for those conditions? Well, Westac Power would, with engines from Volvo Penta. Westac Power has supplied gensets for extreme working conditions since 1993.
The installation at the BAS Rothera research station supplies power for the everyday activities of some 100 scientists, researching land and sea biology, geology, glaciology, meteorology and upper atmospherics.
The Volvo Penta engines selected as the most suitable for this cold and demanding application were TAD752GE Tier 3 engines with a 200 kVA output. The installation also includes one genset used as an emergency standby.
